The differences don’t look that bad in the big picture, but when looking at the smaller icon that shows up on the taskbar it’s very noticeable:

(3 on top, 2 on bottom)

The new icon is clearly evil. What was once a smooth warm inviting bird hugging a nice happy letter has turned into a sharp angular bird with an evil eye guarding a cold heartless envelope. >_<

It just looks so cold and annoyed… like the old icon has been dropped out of a plane in Siberia, left there for years, and only just been found frozen in a cube of ice.

Who’d have thought that changing the shade of the envelope on the icon could have such an impact. We need an epetition to bring back the old one!!
