Google Wave, Hannah Montana Concert, Failbook, SHIPS
So after being mildly interested at seeing what all the hype was about I applied a while back for a google wave account. Eventually got accepted the other day. All I can say is that it’s a complete waste of time.

As the screenshot shows it looks just like MS Outlook. Fair enough there’s lots of nice little things in it like being able to break off conversations at any point in the conversation, and being able to add people to conversations after they’ve already started (and have the entire history available to them)… however…….. it is ultimately just an email client crossed with a pretty lame attempt at a forum come chatroom, all bundled with the added “feature” of absolutely no security whatsoever (i.e. anyone you’ve added to a wave can edit anyone elses content to say whatever they want).
All in all imo there’s absolutely no reason to use this over good old fashioned email, document collaboration software, or even the humble telephone. Unless of course you like pointless frivolity (or are being paid by Google).
On the flipside, I do have 7 invites left. If anyone (or anyone you know) really want’s one then leave me a message and I might send you an invite (if i’m feeling generous
).
Misc other stuff:
I watched that “3D” Hannah Montana concert on Channel 4 on Sunday. Gotta say that Hannah Montana isn’t quite “pop” enough for my liking. Too much guitar. There were however some other issues with the whole thing:
- The 3D glasses barely worked at all. At most you got a faint hint of depth to the screen (only happened when there was something right in front of the camera, and something in the far distance in the same shot), but most of the time you just got a dodgy blue/orange screen with strange shadows everywhere.
- Concert was too short. Minus the advert breaks and the backstage stuff (which broke the flow of the concert might I add) it barely added up to an hour. Concerts should be 1.5 hours minimum, 2+ hours preferable.
- Miscellaneous fail boy band in the middle of it (Jonas Brothers or something) doing bad covers of busted songs. Next time put Busted on instead if you’re just gonna play their songs plzkthx.
Hmm, oh yes… after people kept bothering me to get one I finally succumbed to the pressure of annoyance and got myself one of those failbook accounts (actually I just wanted to play Farmville, but i’ve got a good excuse here and i’m sticking to it, lol). I did initially say I wanted an internet petition with at least 15 signatures before i’d even consider it, but meh, seems they weren’t organized enough to make one. So if anyone I know (or vaguely know, or judging by my “suggested friends” list… don’t know in any way at all) then add me: http://www.facebook.com/insanelampshade (because I need more Farmville neighbors!!)
And finally, in-case no-one saw it on my twitter thingy the other day: http://twitpic.com/q4khf Cosplay ball outfit for this weekend, lol. Hat needs feathers, and I wasn’t wearing the shiny shiny waistcoat in that pic, but it still captures the essence of that SHIPS pimp outfit. ^_^

Anyone else going to the cosplay ball?

Send me one. I want to play with Wave to see if it’s up to what everybody is saying. Also as a Web programmer, parts of it seems pretty interesting.
