Anime Expo 2009 Report – Day 2 (3rd July)
Suffice to say i was damn happy after that breakfast thing.
We walked back to the hotel to change into the concert gear, namely a giant red boiler suit. Surprisingly it wasn’t too overwhelmingly hot.
Headed off to the convention centre and swung by the merchandise booth again to see if they had anything left… they basically had nothing left. Then went off to queue for the concert (incedentally, Americans seemed amused by us keep calling it a queue, apparently they don’t use that word at all, just calling them ‘lines’, ‘lining up’ etc).
When we got in i decided i wanted to sit on the aisle (the ticket only specified a block and row, not seat numbers), the aisle seat was available and so i had more room to jump around! ^_^

When the concert started, Mikan was the first song, as soon as Koharu spotted me with the star tambourine thing she smiled… obviously remembering the favourite song thing from breakfast a little while ago.
The concert had medleys and short MC’s in English (JunJun’s and LinLin’s both with good English). Sadly while great, the concert was unexpectedly short. 30 minutes at the end was used up with Tsunku announcing the winners of the OPV contest. There wasn’t even an encore. *sigh* (though supposedly the lack of encore was because someone from Up Front came out from backstage and told the AX staff it was over and to get everyone outside… don’t know whether to believe it or not) Oh well, there’s still full length concerts in Japan to go and see. I was happy enough that Koharu waved at me lots, lol, being on the aisle in the 5th row was great.
One of the funniest things i heard from the concert though was this guy from Iowa (Jyoru) we were hanging out with, he said his response to Morning Musume’s question of “Genki desu ka?” on stage was to shout “YEAH WE’RE FUCKING GENKI!!!” at the top of his voice, lol.
Went back to the hotel to freshen up and change, and met up with some people to go eat at a dodgy Mexican place before going to Hello!Party.
This fan run event was really fun. On entry everyone in the audience was given a nametag assigning them a team based on their favourite members. Throughout the evening various mini-games were played; name that tune with Morning Musume songs, Morning Musume trivia, Karaoke, Telephone drawing (which was basically Chinese whispers but with drawings, i swear someone just scribbled a cock at one point, lol), and the blindfolded dangling game.
Team Koharu was lacking as we managed a grand total of zero points throughout the entire event, lol.
Then the proper karaoke started and the games had finished. The first few songs had the guys from Mexico doing wotagei on the dancefloor. We somehow managed to get dragged up there to join in as people spotted that we knew the moves and were doing them in our seats, lol.
See video clip here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FG00xFKgaHY
Those of us doing it in our seats were bundled onto the stage shortly after the guy with the microphone said “You people sitting down doing this should really be up on the dance floor.” (spot me and win a cookie) Oh, also, the entire party was being streamed live on the internet… 200+ viewers watching from across the world at one point.
I did put my name down for karaoke, was going to do a duet of Ramutaru from Kirarin Revolution with a guy from Iowa, but sadly they ran out of time before us, we’d have been hilarious.
Ramutara-ta-tan ramutara-ta-ta-tan~
After the karaoke was just the party part, lots of people dancing on stage, it ended on a high with Sexy Boy at about 1.30am and everyone on stage. ^_^
I did take a little souviner, hope they didn’t mind, lol, but thanks for organizing it all!!!

Went back to our hotel after that. Supposedly a few people saw Morning Musume return to their hotel at this time looking very tired after being out shopping until 1.30am, lol.

Hey, Lamp… “I’m fuckin’ genki!” is the standard response to ‘Genki desu ka?’ when you’re at home watching a concert DVD… When it happened in real life, I looked at Moze, he looked at me, and there was only one response to give. We’re in America, go figure… abrasive personalities, aren’t we all?
My 59-year-old father now has a copy of Platinum9Disc, btw.
