Mmm, Windows 7.
Well there we go, all setup, computer idling at a nice cool 30°C, going up to 49°C under load.
Windows 7 is certainly delicious (and incredibly responsive compared to vista), apart from a couple of minor niggly issues (like having to set messenger to vista compatibility mode to get the system tray icon) it’s a very nice OS.
Gotta love being able to drag and re-order open programs on the taskbar.
Not to mention the nice previews you get of windows when hovering over them.

Just had to add this, the thumbnail preview of a window works even with video’s that are playing (you get a video playing in the thumbnail… including any external subtitles, lol):

Not sure when i’d ever use that, but that’s really cool, lol.

Seems like quite a few people like Windows 7. So how long do you have it for?

I believe build 7000 expires on 1st July 2009.
However there should be a release candidate released before then (early April seems to be everyone’s best guess), so i’ll just upgrade to that when it’s out. The release candidate should last until Windows 7 is officially released (probably Q1 2010 by all indications), at which point i shall buy it.

I see, sounds like you are more than happy with it… seems like they’ve done it right this time.

So this is still a beta version, right? How does it hold up as having it set as your main OS?

Yep, still a beta version.
It’s about as stable XP… though there are some minor “quirks” shall we say, nothing that has so far stopped anything from working entirely though.
And even though it is still a beta, it’s already better and more usable by a long long long way than the pile of steaming pig excretion that is vista.
(…just in-case anyone was forced into using a vista machine and is currently thinking “but it’s really not that bad once you get used to it”… the difference between that and windows 7 is very noticeable, and also you shouldn’t have to “get used to it”, it should be usable with ease from the moment it’s installed)
…ah, the only thing that is slightly annoying is that DVD playback kinda only works in windows media player. Everything else just displays a blank screen, probably some sort of drm thing i’m guessing. Actually, that reminds me I should probably re-install powerdvd at some point.
