Mmm, Windows 7.

Tag: My LifeInsaneLampshade @ 17:27pm

Well there we go, all setup, computer idling at a nice cool 30°C, going up to 49°C under load.

Windows 7 is certainly delicious (and incredibly responsive compared to vista), apart from a couple of minor niggly issues (like having to set messenger to vista compatibility mode to get the system tray icon) it’s a very nice OS.

Gotta love being able to drag and re-order open programs on the taskbar. :D Not to mention the nice previews you get of windows when hovering over them.

New computer… at last!

Tag: Misc,My LifeInsaneLampshade @ 20:40pm

I can’t remember when i bought my current PC… probably in 2003/2004… suffice to say it is old, and has gradually been dying piece by piece (graphics card, power supply, hard drives… the list goes on).

And today the parts finally arrived for my first new PC in ages:

CPU: Intel core i7 920

MB: ASUS P6T Deluxe (sexy motherboard is sexy… though the express gate thing looks pretty useless)

RAM: 3GB DDR3 1333MHz (triple channel ftw… planning on overclocking the cpu so it matches the memory speed)

GPU: ASUS 9800GT matrix

i7 Stickers

And the most important point… i shall be watercooling the CPU.

Now unfortunately there were two problems with this, number 1 was i didn’t buy a big enough case, so i had to be “creative” with radiator location as the pictures below indicate. There are two 120mm rads in it… one at bottom front intake and one mounted on the outside as pictured (honestly it turned out far better than i was expecting, the lame swirly metal on the cheap case ended up being really useful to clamp down the outside rad… i had originally settled on simply super gluing the rad to the outside, lol… until i tried to lift off the metal bits and saw what they could do with some creative thinking).

Number 2 was that the tubing was not in stock at the time i ordered and so won’t be shipped to me until next week. So until then i shall provide the in-progress pictures. ^_^

New Computer Case1

New Computer Case2

(cpu waterblock not yet fitted… need to leak test everything before properly putting it in the system)

I’ll be putting windows 7 on it… it’s actually a reasonably good OS… far far far far better than vistaids.

Joining the student subspecies

Tag: My LifeInsaneLampshade @ 23:42pm

You know, i think it’s good to live your life on a whim…

- Go to LA….. yeah, lets go, not like i’m doing anything else then.

- Stockholm too… sure why not.

- Do a degree in philosophy in your spare time… may aswell, haven’t got anything better to do…

So yes, i am joining the unwashed student underclass (only part-time mind, us folk in the real world have this magical thing called “a proper job” to attend to). :)

London Philosophy

(Note: Naa-san didn’t come with it, lol.)

This serves two purposes:

a) Seeing as no-one i asked could adequately answer my previous question on the matter, i have decided that i have to solve existence by myself. I mean there’s no point setting your sights on such lowly achievements as first class honors (which i have no doubt that i will achieve in my sleep), only the top shall do for me. You can all call me supreme overlord once i’m done.

b) Get degree, move to the promised land.

However this also means that from now on i shan’t be watching any anime that is not at least above average in value (so this season that leaves: Maria Holic, Marimite, Hetalia, Minami-ke, the Haruhi stuff, and Sorakake).

Pink & Plaid at Stockholm!

Shugo Chara

Now when this (Buono! at Stockholm Japan Expo) was announced the other day i initially said something like “hmm, if it were MilkyWay then i’d go”.

However i later looked at the price of flights/hotel and jesus christ it’s cheap… £50 for a return flight (including all taxes and hidden charges… technically the actual cost of the flight is £1.50 return + all the taxes, lol).

…and now i’m looking forward to hearing Kokoro no Tamago live!

Clearly having a Shugo Chara calendar this year has provided luck and brought Buono nearby! (just a sidenote: does anyone else find “buono” really akward to say… “bueno” the Spanish word is far easier, lol)

I have to point out though that they obviously wanted to come to the UK *cough*lol*cough*, but well, Sweden’s close enough…
