Thursday:
I’ve gotta say that a coach to the airport is far nicer than 2 trains and the underground, lol, straight there and in less time, i think i shall use coaches more often. Anyway yes, got to the airport, plane arrived in Frankfurt like 30 minutes early, lol. We were planning on meeting up with the people from the Japanese fanclub at the hotel in Kassel, but conveniently they all happened to still be at the train station when we got there (about 15 people in total i think). And shortly afterwards Momoi also walked past us with some Connichi staff, lol. We couldn’t have timed our arrival any better, lol. ^_^
…and onto the train after a short wait, jesus christ was it hot… 26°C or something, i was dressed for cold English weather, lol. We ended up standing for the entire hour and a half journey even though we had seats reserved (decided trying to explain to the people sitting in our seats was too much hassle since we speak no German).
Got to Kassel, hung around at the station for a bit, bought stuff, ate food, again we saw Momoi arrive an hour or so after us, lol. Getting to the hotel itself involved several taxi’s with people in groups of 4… suffice to say the hotel was somewhat far away, and Kassel definitely looks well dodgy at night, complete lack of lights in the back roads. Wouldn’t want to be in Kassel when the zombie outbreak happens.
Straight to sleep, tired after half a day of travelling.
Friday:
Breakfast, then off to the town hall place for the convention. When we got there there was still discussion as to wether Momoi was going to come sightseeing with us to the Hercules statue thing at the top of the hill. She wanted to go, but was on a tight schedule and couldn’t in the end, so everyone decided not to go to Hercules that day, we’d instead go to a park place nearby (where Momoi was also going).
Got there, walked around for a bit, saw Momoi walking around with the Connichi staff and people from Gainax so we didn’t bother them. Ended up taking photo’s, and thus began Melon’s sightseeing tour of Kassel (one of the Japanese guys brought it with him… man how i wanted one of these when i first saw the announcement/advert for it in Megami when it was getting released), lol…

We didn’t stay there too long, everyone split up into 2 (maybe 3) groups, and we walked off into the town for a bit before returning to the convention centre by tram.
I think then we went to get food before waiting for Momoi’s first autograph session that day. While sitting around waiting for the autograph session was when we heard about the new single that was on sale, English version of 21st Century, and German version of Yume no Baton, even the Japanese fans looked surprised, lol.
Bought 2 copies of the CD, got one of them signed. I’m pretty sure the karaoke we went to with a couple of the Japanese guys was at some point during that afternoon, lol… due to lack of Momoi songs they sung God Knows, lol. ^_^
…and the opening ceremony was later that day, sparklers on stage for one of the guys from Gainax as it was his birthday. Seemed amusing even if i had no idea what any of the German being spoken meant, lol. Can’t remember anything significant that happened that evening after then so i guess we just went back to the hotel after wandering around for a bit.
Oh, one thing i have to note about the cosplay at Connichi, why were there so many alice in wonderland cosplayers, lol, and i mean everything from cheshire cats, to mad hatters, to rabbits, to alice herself. Has some sort of alice in wonderland thing recently been released or something? o.O
Saturday:
At breakfast there was some discussion as to whether people wanted to go sightseeing (to the aforementioned Hercules monument even though Momoi wouldn’t be coming) or just go straight to the convention centre. I ended up in the sightseeing group… a total of 5 of us.
And so up the hill for sightseeing we went. All the taxi needed was some eurobeat and we’d have been set for racing the road up the hill through the forest. It was bloody cold at the top… cold and windy, and i left my coat in the hotel (as it had been warm the previous 2 days). But oh well, we carried on, and much Melon based hilarity ensued (along with many many photo’s, lol)…

Walked around for a while, took more photos, walked across a field with large amounts of unidentifiable faeces everywhere, lol (like walking a minefield…), found our way to a small castle/chateaux/whatever they call them in Germany, took more photos there before heading back into the town centre.
Went to eat in an Italian restaurant in a shopping mall, and to our surprise the chef there started showing off his gundam (at least i think it was some sort of gundam) tattoos, lol.
Then off to the convention centre for the first time that day to meet up with everyone else and wait for Momoi’s autograph session that day (it’s not that everyone desperately wants 1000′s of copies of her autograph, just the chance to get to speak to her again, lol). Though after waiting for a little while they told us that they’d rescheduled the autograph session to after the concert that night. We stayed around the area though and the Japanese guys decided they’d have fun teaching us various slang, lol. They wanted us to teach them western otaku slang, but we failed at thinking of any (at least any that we haven’t stolen from the Japanese, or any that weren’t incredibly dirty, lol)… the only thing we managed to come up with was Narutard, lol.
After that we went on a quest for food, first stop the restaurant in the hotel at the convention centre… closed. So we ended up waiting for a tram thing to go into the town and find somewhere to eat, that also proved to be relatively fruitless and we ended up in what i can only assume was a German fish and chip shop. Definitely not like a British one, lol, and after trying to figure out where you go to order food i eventually ended up picking something random as it was all in German. All i know was that it was a fish of some sort and had potatoes with it (sidenote: they have strange pickled fish things on sticks in Germany, they aren’t the best tasting things in the world, lol). And luckily we made it to the tram stop 5 minutes before the last tram that would get us back in time for Momoi’s first concert of the weekend.
Joined up with everyone and helped hand out the glowsticks, we positioned ourselves just behind the main crowd of people at the front (as there was a lot more room to jump around there). And so the concert began (i can never remember the order of songs or all the songs that were played >_<)… about 2 songs in it was Ton Dol Baby, i’ve gotta say that song is definitely a killer at the beginning of a concert, full effort into jumping so early on, lol, i ended up rushing to find my water in my bag right after the song had finished.
Another excellent concert, she sung 21st Century in Japanese though, lol, almost thought she was gonna treat us to a live version in English. An hour for a concert is far too short though. T_T Ah well, it did start quite late (8pm). The experience is definitely better with a live band there too… feels more ‘authentic’ lol. ^_^
…after the concert there was a *huge* queue to get Momoi’s autograph, lol. We all waited until the end (while trying to recover from the concert and drinking much liquid). 3 of the band members ended up coming out towards the end, so we got their autographs too, lol.
This is when the t-shirt from Animelo was handed over to her.

By this point we were all very tired and headed back to the hotel to sleep.
Sunday:
The last day of Connichi. Went to the convention centre and waited for the last autograph session of the weekend. Wrote messages in the book for Momoi, then went off to wait for the last concert.
Somehow i managed to put even more effort into jumping and cheering for this concert than the previous one (could be one reason why walking is somewhat difficult at the moment, lol), i think i’ve almost mastered the romance move now, lol. Shouting for Ai no Medicine with everyone is a great feeling.
Great concert.
The closing ceremony was odd, lol… some sort of giant conga line with the staff on stage and dodgy music, i’m sure it’d have made far more sense if i spoke German, lol.
By this point we were all still very sweaty and made a much needed return to the hotel to shower and change for the farewell party that evening.
As for the farewell party itself we ate in the hotel connected to the convention centre, some sort of buffet meal. And continuing the trend from last year people put glowsticks into their drinks, lol. Listening to Momoi speaking about a Kirarin Revolution live event was quite amusing (i am somewhat of a large Kirarin Revolution fan)… saying that SHIPS the boy band were getting more otaku style cheers than Kirari (Kusumi Koharu of Morning Musume). Then she came over to talk to us and thank us for coming… her English has definitely improved since last year, she even remembered our names. ^_^ Now if only my Japanese would improve, as she wrote in the dictionary we had with us…

“Benkyou ganbatte ne!!”
Not to mention writing on the page that had “Momo” on it, lol…

After that we spent the rest of the time talking to the other Japanese fans (half through drawing pictures, lol).
Before the meal ended i remembered we’d brought presents for everyone (English shortbread/biscuits), got them out, however there weren’t enough for everyone, so in the end Momoi kept them for herself and gave everyone else a pot noodle as a replacement, lol.
After the meal was over she came down with all of us to the hotel lobby to pose for photographs and say goodbye to everyone, ahhh… if only the night were longer. >_< She stayed there waving at us with her glowstick until we couldn’t see her anymore, lol.
Back at the hotel we all signed a Connichi t-shirt that would be given to the group of people that are going to Taiwan with her… “passing the baton” if you will, lol. And before going to sleep 5 of us stayed out on the hotel steps to record us doing the Nyan Nyan thing from Macross Frontier, lol. It will apparantly be appearing on mixi video at some point.
And that’s that, Connichi over, back in England again. I must say thankyou everyone for a great time again, and can’t wait for the next… whenever or wherever it may be (must see Momoi in Japan sometime, lol). We did find it amusing that the “world tour” t-shirt appears to be missing the entire of the United Kingdom on the map, lol (probably appropriate i suppose unless Ayacon do something exciting).
Photo’s are in the photo section of my site (though not all of them… the rest are on my mixi thing), and yes as one person has already pointed out, i took more photos of Melon-chan than Momoi, lol (and cosplayers for that matter).
