Washinomiya Shrine – That shrine in Lucky Star

Tag: Anime,Misc,My LifeInsaneLampshade @ 16:45pm

A trip outside of Tokyo today…

Lucky Star Shrine

Real Lucky Star Shrine

Navigated our way to Washinomiya… it seems to be a really tiny place, lol, walked up the road using the carefully detailed maps at the station left by other people. Got to the place, took a photo, and decided to check out the restaurant (the building to the right of the gate) as it’s menu was full of Lucky Star stuff. At which point a nice old guy came out of the building and started talking to us and invited us in for coffee, asked us where we were from etc. and started telling us some sort of story about how not many people came to visit before Lucky Star, and now they have people coming from Australia, Malasia, and all over Japan on a daily basis, saying that Lucky Star was wonderful. I think we were the first people that had arrived from England (at least as far as i could gather), and the 2 girls on the other table seemed impressed we’d come all this way, lol… something about Lucky Star being truly worldwide.

Oh, as for the restaurant itself, it was one of those ‘take your shoes off and sit on a cushion on the floor with a low down table in front of you’ things… really hurts your legs, lol. But the whole building on the inside was literally covered with various Lucky Star shrine related things, and signed things from the cast all over. :) And when we came to leave the old guy said he’d pay for our food and drink… nice one! They’re obviously rolling in the money with all these daily visitors that they can offer free food to travellers, lol.

On the way out there was a brief conversation with a young girl about England and English bands, lol… she seemed somewhat excitable, lol…. “AH ENGLAND!! THE BEATLES!!! …OASIS… NOEL GALLACHER!!. :)

As for the shrine itself… well it was a shrine, lol, only difference being hundreds of anime related wooden blocks with wishes on hung up instead of normal ones, lol.

Oh, and not to mention seeing this in the car park:

Shana Car

There seemed to be a fair few anime fans around during the daytime on a weekday, lol… i wonder how many people turn up at weekends. ^_^

Time spent in arcades

Tag: Misc,My LifeInsaneLampshade @ 3:13am

Best arcade game i’ve played here, lol, Otomedius:

Otomedius

Side scrolling shooter, except you level up, weapon skills can level up etc. and it’s all stored on a magical card that you wave over the machine before playing. ^_^ And it has a touchscreen for all the menus… and one of the special moves, really a very pretty game.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-ppF3c5kWM

Seems a shame i won’t get to play it when i get back, i’m getting pretty good at it now. Maybe they’ll release a PC version or something. >_<

(sidenote: arcades are really great here… everything costs 50p per play instead of like £2… and you get at least 5-10 minutes of play with your 50p instead of like 30 seconds on our arcade games, lol)

…and yesterday we managed to fill up a whole point card for LittlePSX (and almost a 2nd, lol)… photo with a maid of your choice, or a set of customised dart flights as your reward, lol. I get the feeling we may fill up 3 cards by the time we come back, lol. I think i’ll put my dart board up again when i’m home. ^_^

Random Purchasing – no more AKB48

Tag: Misc,Music,My LifeInsaneLampshade @ 3:07am

AKB48 aren’t performing for the rest of the month, and the other day they announced on their website that as of March there will no longer be any queuing allowed to buy tickets each day, so all tickets will be by email lottery only. That has annoyed many of the hardcore fans that go every single day… as they’ll now only be able to see them once a month maybe. We did spend a little time at the monday concert teaching one of the old guys some good English swear words… as he went off shouting them, lol. But yeah, no-one’s happy about the lottery only system. It doesn’t benefit their regular fans, and it certainly doesn’t benefit their overseas fans (go on holiday to Japan… more than likely not be able to see them at all, lol), the only people it benefits are possibly the type of fan who thinks “meh, maybe i’ll go see them, maybe not”… but for those sort of fans are they going to bother to email every day to win the ticket lottery? Probably not, they’ll email once, not win, and then not try again….. so in fact their new system benefits no-one. Great one guys, lol.

Well, enough of that, i can’t see it lasting, none of the fans are happy, lol. On the plus side, we bought the new single at the theatre and got posters………….. and to our surprise… one of the signed posters!!!!! There is only 1 signed poster for each member, and we got one, lol. Kinda feel sorry for the guy in front of us that bought 50 copies of the CD (somewhere around 70,000 yen) hoping to get a signed poster, compared to our 4, lol.

Saeki Mika Signed Poster

And in other random purchasing, we all remember that Kira Star cosporn right, well one shop had a copy with a signed photo, lol… i couldn’t resist (it’ll probably never get opened though):

Wonder Festival……………….. or not…

Tag: Misc,Music,My LifeInsaneLampshade @ 6:37am

Well, we were meant to be going to the Wonder Festival yesterday, we bought the guidebook and everything, and had places marked down to go to first………. however, we were asked by a very nice girl after Harepan’s live yesterday to come and watch her, lol… so we had to make a choice, and ended up not going to the wonder festival. I’m not disappointed, i think we made the right choice, lol. :)

Yes, so anyway yesterday… woke up, headed back to Shibuya (this time a place called “Shibuya Eggman” …yeah… who knows, lol), another relatively small basement place, though not as dark as the one the other day, lol, probably slightly less people there than the day before. The three people performing were:

Suzuoto Hikari (the one who asked us to come)
Miyabi Chinatsu – somewhat more upbeat songs, and seemingly had a fair amount of her fans there… and even got one of the “tiger, fire, cyber, fiber, diver, viber, jya-jya!!” chants, lol (i guess it’s not limited to AKB48 only then).
Akanagi – a pair of girls, laid back music, both played guitar. And that day was the day of their debut single’s release, so there were flowers, and almost tears etc. :)

At the end there was a vote for which one would perform the encore… i think we were one of very few voting for Hikari… aww. >_< Akanagi won, somewhat fitting i guess since it was a special day for them. :)

After it had finished we went and got photo’s with Hikari, and signed copies of her cd:

Suzuoto Hikari + Me Suzuoto Hikari Signed CD

And then bought Akanagi’s single… and got that signed too…

Akanagi Signed CD

And so another day came to an end…….. lol, no… it was still only 3pm. :) We battled our way back up to Harajuku station, dear god i SO HATE Harajuku at weekends, we tried to escape as quickly as possible back to the safety of Akiba, however we still had to battle our way through them. >_> Like hoards of zombies blocking the bridge.

Anyway, yes, back in Akiba, and we were hungry, so we decided to go to this Korean barbeque place right next to the station (the Akihabara Electric town exit, not the side where Gamers is, but the other side, there’s a big building right outside and it’s on the 8th floor… lift next to the french sandwich shop). And boy was that a good place to eat, so much delicious delicious meat. All of the georgeous marbled steaks that you bbq yourself just how you like it at your table, they literally just melt in your mouth. Best meat i’ve ever eaten by a long long way, delicious melty fat… mmmmmmmm. Definitely recommend the premium selection of meat on the menu, lol. :D

We still had pleanty of time to kill after that, so we went back to the hotel, tidied ourselves up, and went back to somewhere we discovered the other day… a maid bar called “Little PSX“. However it’s not just any maid bar, it’s a darts bar, lol… and all the maids play darts with you (if you want that is). It almost feels just like a British pub, few tables, walls stained, old tatty curtains, and people playing darts with pints of beer, just with the addition of some maids (some incredibly hot maids might i add… incredibly hot, lol… best maid in Akiba!). I get the feeling this place will be our regular hang out now, seeing as we both now have half filled point cards already (yeah, don’t ask how much we spent), and were given a dart flight each with the maid bar’s logo on as a present by one of them. I’m sure being British we have a significant advantage over everyone at darts, in that darts skill improves significantly with beer, and if you’ve got a beer belly then you’re probably a professional lol. And the maids in this place are far friendlier than other places we’ve been, lol, a couple even attempted English conversation. ^_^

LittlePSX Flight

And after a few rounds of darts with the maids (…6 i think… lol) it was almost time for the place to close, so we decided to call it a night and head back to the station. However we were met by yet another distraction at the station, a girl sitting down on a blanket with a portable heater with a crowd of guys around her, we kinda went over to investigate, at which point the crowd told us to come in and sit down, lol.

Turned out to be a girl called “Cohana” who described herself as an “Idol Egg”… aww… lol. Sat there for a little while, bought photo’s, briefly spoke about Harepan (when she mentioned something about singing Neko Nyan Dance, lol)… she seemed surprised we knew them. Turns out she’s there every Sunday evening selling photo’s and handing out leaflets for her events (sadly they’re all in March or April so we can’t go, lol). Time for her to leave, and one of the other guy’s sitting around her suggested we should go out drinking, lol… and so we did, eventually found some bar place, ate horse sashimi (quite chewy), and i somehow managed to get a taxi back to the hotel at 1am. Mr_Trainspotting however was less successful… deciding to stay there when i left, and somehow managing to spend 2 and a half hours on the train network trying to find the right station (for what should have been a 4 minute ride two stops down the line), and eventually crawling into the room at 5am, lol.

…another good day, worth missing the wonder festival for i feel, lol (real people are better than figures right?).

80★PAN! Live! …and Minori Chihara.

Tag: Misc,Music,My LifeInsaneLampshade @ 17:14pm

Today was excellent. :)

Me + Harepan

Yay, Harepan live! The place itself was a pretty small basement place, i’d say about 50 people in total in there. I forget exactly what songs they played, but they were all popular ones. :) Including one cover song, lol… and my first time hearing Natsu no Dona Summer properly. ^_^ I was in the 2nd row… barely like half a metre away from them the whole time, lol… managed to get a high five out of both of them while they were on the stage. :)

Halfway through there was some sort or true of false quiz involving the crowd standing on one half for true and the other half for false… would have been far easier if i knew exactly what most of the questions were, lol.

But yeah, after the show, got to take a photo with them on their camera (above)… and promised with them that i’d come see them again, lol. :) Guess i’ve got to now, lol. :)

Harepan Chocolate Sign

Also got given (late) valentines day chocolates from them, lol… definitely makes up for only getting chocolate on valentines day from a dodgy guy in a bar in kyoto, lol… and not to mention getting mentioned on their last blog post. :)

“イングランドからもわざわざ遊びにきてくれた人もいて、、、ベリーThanksっす☆!”

Ahh… they’re great. :D

…and later in the day (after almost the entire train system in Tokyo was closed due to “wind”) we went to see Minori Chihara at Shibuya O-East… a rather large place, rather hot too, lol. We were basically right at the back, but somehow we managed to get her attention with crazy waving towards the end, lol. It’s really trance-like seeing an entire concert hall of otaku in front of you moving their glowsticks in sync, lol. And i think i’ve got the hang of when to use the ultra orange sticks now… managed to get through 2 of them, along with a normal blue. :) Pretty good live… i do like her Contact album.
