Some things i forgot to add…

Tag: Anime,My LifeInsaneLampshade @ 22:53pm

The video’s i have are: Several of the opening ceremony, the JRock concert, Dokuro-chan, all the masquerade skits, JPop party, cardboard box selling for £35, Cloud VS Tonberry, Tonberry Bowling, and Trolley Fun

And i forgot to mention the tabletop RPG i bought… “Oscillating Haddock“. It looks somewhat interesting! ;)

You know…i think i’m still in anime convention mode…i keep seeing random things and thinking they’re anime related… e.g… “Did that sign say something about Clamp? …no…wait…it says ‘Parked vehicles will be clamped’”, and “Is he cosplaying ‘That Man!’ …no…wait… it’s just a guy in a white suit”

Oh, and i forgot to mention: Glomp count = 7 :D

Ayacon 2005 – Report

Tag: Anime,My LifeInsaneLampshade @ 22:49pm

WOW!! Ayacon ROCKED!!! Hmm…lets see, where do i start…

The first thing i saw…a Tonberry on a RC Mini driving around! The con-pack we got when we registered was good (badge and bag/sack were especially cool!). Next was taking photos of all the cosplayers (Cloud one looked cool!), and people actually recognised my Kafra Service T-Shirt!! Yay!

Ok, into the opening ceremony… i have never seen so many anime fans in one place! (approx. 1200 people!) And, of course, the highlights of the opening ceremony was Dokuro-chan “Pipiru piru piru pipiru pi!” :D , and Densha Otoko! Then we all piled out and done some stuff…shopping, more cosplay photos etc.

Then came the karaoke! I would have gone up to sing…but they didn’t have the Popotan opening theme available (man…i so wanted to do the dance for that!). Oh well, it was fun watching other people…the hat guy and girl with him that were hosting the karaoke were surprisingly good at singing! And…i ended up buying Dragon Half on DVD all because of the hilarious attempts by a few people at singing the Opening!

Saturday came…got into my Ky Schweitzer cosplay, went for breakfast…and sat outside the second dealer room for an hour until it opened! I was pretty much mugged into buying a copy of Fusion Black and White by the writer (she was so nice…i would have felt guilty if i’d said no…and she signed it!). Having now read it, i can now say it was worth every penny…and i’m whole heartedly looking forward to Fusion 1 when it comes out!

Then went to the main dealers room, and bought Puni Puni Poemy (impulse buy), a Nausicaa t-shirt, a Kimagure Orange Road t-shirt (this is sooo cool!!! do you have any idea how long i’ve been looking for one of these?!), a full set of Azumanga Daioh plushies, and a host of other stuff. (A very successful morning!)

Azumanga Daioh Plushies

After that it was on to watch a few panels… I have to say…that guy from ADV was so cool!! It looks like MVM won’t ever release Love Hina Again over here. :( Oh, and who knew there were so many Yaoi fangirls!! (remind me to cosplay Sanzo from Saiyuki at Ame next year!)

Hmm…then it was the pub quiz, we didn’t win, but it was damn funny, all i’m gonna say is: “****licious”. Oh…and there were comments on the Ayacon forums about the team i was on: “stripping off during the quiz was a bit more yaoi than I remember X being” ;)

One of the best parts of the weekend…the JPop party! Several crazy conga lines, almost getting attacked by the “Will Yaoi for alcohol!” guy, and being glmoped several times during the course of the night! The DJ’s rocked!! (Thankies for playing Tenbatsu! :D )

Sunday…auction, i so wanted that bedsheet! And who’d have thought that someone would pay £35 for a cardboard box?! Panel quiz rocked (i now know how to play mornington crescent!).

The rest of Sunday was spent at the Blood concert…which was ok’ish, not really my thing. Followed by the incredibly short closing ceremony… “Thanksforcomming, getout!”

After the con was over, a good time was had by all at the gathering place by the steps…people were drunk, trollies were being used, fires were being started (apparantly?)…and then it ended. awwwww.

My favourite pic from the con is this:
Bleach Rukia CosplayersMy favourite cosplay was this guy as Nurse Witch Komugi:

Does anyone know this guy’s e-mail address?
All my other photo’s can be found in the gallery (the photo’s beginning with “600″ i took from other people…thankyou!) I also have several videos, if you want them e-mail me or MSN me, and i’ll send them to you. Also, if for some reason your photo is here, and you wish for it to be removed, please let me know.Wow…i now have well over 100 people on my MSN messenger… (83 people added since Ayacon ended, yay for random MSN adding on the ayacon forums!!)

Final note, this is for the two girls that screamed out “Anime t-shirt!!!” from down the street in Camden when i was walking home from work on Tuesday…that really made my day, i’ve been wearing some of these t-shirts for like a year and a half waiting for someone (anyone!) to recognise one, whoever you two were, thankyou!! :D

I met Makoto Shinkai!!

Tag: Anime,My LifeInsaneLampshade @ 22:33pm

Easily the best evening of my life… I met Makoto Shinkai!!! (you know, he’s the one that single-handedly made the masterpiece that is “Voices of a Distant Star” (Hoshi no Koe), and then went on to create the even greater masterpiece near the end of last year that is “The Place Promised in our Early Days” (Kumo no Mukou, Yakusoku no Basho)) I actually met him…and got his autograph!!! (it was at the British Film Theatre to see a screening of Voices of a Distant Star)

(i would just like to thank Mr. “ipod expert” from the tagboard over there for the use of his phone, since i forgot to bring my own camera)

DVD Signed

Hmm…now i wonder when i’ll be able to meet the other people on my list of people i’d like to meet? (the list consists of: Haruko Momoi, Tenmon, Ken Akamatsu, Haayo Miyazaki, Whoever made Kimagure Orange Road, Hironobu Sakaguchi, Nobuo Uematsu, Sid Meier, and Jon Tickle)

Eugene to win! (Kinga 2nd!)

Tag: Anime,Misc,My LifeInsaneLampshade @ 22:32pm

Lost sucks, don’t watch it. Apparantly there’s a really big twist right at the end, but not worth watching all 22 hours of it for.

I decided to go with the iriver H340 instead of the iPod. Main reasons; iriver can play .ogg files, looks nicer, can play video, can play radio, is far more durable, has a longer battery life (before anyone says anything in relation to my comments about the sony player, i was just saying that 40 hours is a little excessive), and has better audio quality (signal to noise ratio of 90dB compared to the iPod’s 85dB). As far as i can tell, the downsides to the iriver are it’s slightly poorer UI, and the poor playlist management. But, playlists are easily sorted with a quick edit in notepad or something, and any UI can be learned no matter how poor it is. Well, i use linux, i don’t think a poor UI and editing config files manually are gonna be anything to worry about for me…lol! :D

I finally got a chance to read the Nausicaä manga… wow! Amazing story, really makes you think about things! The film pales in comparison (it barely covers volume 1, the manga has 7 volumes). I recommend the manga to anyone and everyone, it’s easily the best thing i’ve read! (The character Kushana deserves a special mention, this is one of the few times i’ve acutally really liked a character from a tv series/film/book, she has so much depth.)

I like going to work by train, it gives me time to read stuff!

“This week i’ll be mostly reading: AI Love You”
(i guess i kinda have a soft spot for Ken Akamatsu’s art)
