May 2005 London Expo – Report

Tag: Anime,Misc,My LifeInsaneLampshade @ 20:59pm

I know it’s a little late, but i meant to say something a while back… The London Expo was pretty fun (altough a bit crowded…you’d have thought they could have hired out two convention halls). I got my Ghost in the Shell DVD signed by Richard Epcar (american voice of Batou), i also got my issue 1 of Neo signed by the editor (issue 1 went out of print a while back…so it’s pretty rare, you can’t get back-copies of it anymore). I saw pleanty of cosplaying folks…the Rei Ayanami, and Tron Guy couple were pretty good, as was the girl doing Full Metal Alchemist (haven’t watched it, so i don’t know the name of the main character). The DDR people were amazing…simply amazing, i never thought i’d see someone complete a 10-footed song, you guys rock!! Also…at the wizards of the coast section (you know…the card games, and board games) i got to have a go at one of their new games (i think it was called something-scape, uhh, mystscape, mythscape, dragonscape…something like that, you get the idea)…and i won…i beat the guy teaching it to everyone! I also ended up walking away with a ton of free stuff (if anyone of the Expo coordinators ever reads this, the storm trooper models sucked!! did a 5 year old paint them?!), and i also ended up buying a rather large chobits plushie:

Atashi Plushie

Also, can i just ask this in general to anyone who has something against firefox, or linux, or actually any “alternative” to a microsoft product, why do you people not like these things? you know firefox is better than internet explorer, there is absolutly no good reason why you should still use internet explorer (“because i always have” is not an excuse!), you know firefox is better and yet you still defend internet explorer, why? In the last 2 years i have had *no* spyware/adware/viruses on my windows pc…this is thanks to firefox. Nowadays, it’s pretty impossible to use internet explorer to browse the internet without picking up something, and you know it’s true, so why defend a defective product? Also, with regards to linux, ok, so it might be a bit geeky and hard to use sometimes…but that’s what instructions are for! Did you know, there’s literally only 4 viruses for linux…none of which pose a threat anymore, because the holes they exploited were fixed years ago. New virsues/exploits for windows are being found every day, and yet you still defend it, and you still snub other alternatives, why? (“because it’s too hard to use” is not an excuse…if you can read, then you can use linux) So stop defending software which you *know* is defective, you *know* the alternatives are better, you *know* they have less bugs/holes/exploits and are more secure, so stop defending windows and internet explorer, it’s completly illogical!! I know you’re doing it to annoy me, but it just makes you look stupid!

Linux, Risk, and Yotsubato!

Tag: Anime,Misc,My LifeInsaneLampshade @ 20:58pm

Yay!! Finally finished upgrading my linux machine to Mandrake LE2005…so stressful, why can’t packages come with all the things they require…and install them if you don’t have them, if i never see another “failed dependancy” in my life i’ll be a happy man!. Oh well, at least i’m back on the cutting edge of linux software!

Also, Yotsubato! manga comes out in a few days (in England!) YAY!!

And finally, with regards to Risk: Global Domination’s online play on the PS2, i’d just like to point out that it’s not just me that has problems, hardly anyone can ever connect, and those that can connect have no-one to play against. And Atari or Gamespy’s customer support don’t seem to care, you e-mail them telling them your problem, and they just e-mail you back a standard reply containing a list of ports that you need to open because it’s obviously your fault (even though you explicitly said in your e-mail that *all* ports on your router are open!!)

Online Revolution?

Tag: Eurovision,MiscInsaneLampshade @ 20:54pm

Actually, i just realised, i can comment on the revolution’s possible online experience…they said they were teaming up with Gamespy to offer online gaming, right? Well, gamespy arcade on the pc is great…and anyone who uses it will know what i’m talking about when i say “Yarn” is THE funniest, and most entertaining multiplayer online game ever!! (ahh…the memories…stories of the tellitubbies, bin laden, prostitutes and a whole lot of randomness!) If they offer that for free with the revolution online…that’d be great. But…i also have an online PS2 game that uses gamespy (Risk: Global Domination)…and this is less than impressive…the game bloody never connects!!! Out of all my online PS2 games, this is the only one that uses gamespy, and it is also the only one that never, ever connects!!! If they just made a copy of gamespy arcade for the revolution then that’d be ok (Yarn…yay!!)…but if it’s anything like the way they’ve done things for that PS2 game…then it’s gonna suck.

Right, the Eurovision song contest 2005…Israel should have won. Is it just me, or was there significantly less “neighborly voting” this year (not saying that it wasn’t there…just there was less of it). Also, the reason Javine didn’t win… no matter how well she sang it or whatever, her song is not the type of song that will ever win eurovision. A eurovision song should not be a bloody american-wannabe black r&b/pop song, that type of song will never win! A eurovision song will always be an upbeat, maybe slightly cheezy european pop song, think along the lines of that “Dragostea Din Tei” song that was in the charts last year…if that was in the eurovision, it’d have won by a mile.

E3 2005 next-gen console review

Tag: MiscInsaneLampshade @ 20:47pm

Hmm…my views after watching the pre-e3 press conferences on the next-gen consoles? (before i start, i’d like to say i tried really hard to give a balanced view…you can’t still say i’m in fanboy mode?)

Xbox 360: Looks fairly nice (did Apple give them some hints?), will probably have the best online experience. Game trailers looked ok…nothing special, apart from Elder Scrolls IV (which looks pretty damn sweet), and…of course… “Lost Odyssey” (Pic 1 and Pic 2) the new RPG from Hironobu Sakaguchi (FF games producer), and Nobuo Uematsu (FF music legend), that is gonna be simply amazing, and alone will make me want to buy the Xbox 360.

PS3: Looks crap…seriously (they bloody better have the black version on launch day, the silver and white ones suck), and lets face it, the controller is a double ended dildo with buttons. It has by far the best specs though. If the PS2′s current “Central Station” and online gaming is anything to go by, then Sony will most likely screw this bit up somewhat. Most of the game trailers i saw looked pretty damn amazing (apart from Killing Day…that looked crappy), the ones that especially caught my eye were killzone, warhawk, and motor storm. And the fact that all the big games (new FF games, MGS4, next GTA game), and all the big names said they’re supporting the PS3 means there’s gonna be pleanty of games for this system (whether or not they will all be great is another question…but there’s no doubt there will be pleanty of games on launch, and pleanty more to come).

Nintendo Revolution: Definatley looked the best, no doubt about it (altough we are yet to see the all mysterious controllers that may or may not have some “special” features). Specs won’t be as good as the other two. umm…that’s about all i can really say, no game trailers to comment on, can’t really comment on nintendo’s online gaming (unless you want me to judge it based on the gamecube’s online features? …as i thought, therefore i won’t comment on this until more details are released). But what i will say, is that the next Harvest Moon is bound to appear on this, that’s always a good thing.

You know, i think i’ve decided…i’ll buy all three (i mean it’s not as if they’re all comming out at the same time). Then i get the best of all 3 worlds!

Also, i just noticed an interesting poll on the bbc website (yes, the bbc website, therefore the votes are more likely to represent the views of the general public rather than the hardcore gamers, and therefore this poll is probably more accuratley gonna reflect store sales than a poll on a gaming site):

Lack of updates… bored

Tag: Misc,My Life,Site NewsInsaneLampshade @ 20:44pm

I feel i should update this page with something, so here goes… WHO THE HELL WAS SEARCHING FOR MY NAME ON GOOGLE, AND THEIR ISP IS TISCALI??? Damn f****** stalkers, they’re everywhere. The only person i remember from school telling me their isp was tiscali is Sami…now…if you’re reading this…you scare me.

Also, going back a couple of weeks now…i saw someone i knew in town…they completly ignored me. I doubt the person in question visits this site…but if anyone that does, knows who i’m talking about, then could you please remind them of the rules regarding seeing me in town…
“If you ever see me in town, either hope i don’t see you, then ignore me, or if i see you, say hello, then get lost!”

Don’t you just hate it when you’re drunk and type everything backwards, and end up adding extra letters to the word (also…don’t you just hate it when you have to give painfully obvious clues like that, it kinda defeats the point of the puzzle eh? …incase anyone didn’t notice…yes…i’m extremely bored…man…no fair…nothing’s fair…oh well, maybe someone’ll finish the puzzle one day.)
