Eurovision 2012 – My picks

Tag: Eurovision,MusicInsaneLampshade @ 1:41am

It’s that time of year again! Hmm, now should I write something about every single entry, or just narrow it down to how I’d vote… I’ll narrow it down., makes for a tidier page and means less work for me! \o/

Having listened to all the entries on glorious YouTube (Official Eurovision Channel Playlist) here’s my favourites this year (predictions and misc stuff to follow at the bottom of this post below the wall of videos):

1 point (ok, so I couldn’t narrow it down entirely, so here’s 4 songs on joint 1 point from me!):

Switzerland – If only because it’s seemingly been spammed everywhere the past month.

Belarus – Ok so it’s obviously awful, but it’s still reasonable! And kudos to whatever those outfits are!

Moldova – Upbeat, happy! :)

Serbia – Reminds me of something that wouldn’t be out of place in Final Fantasy X, nice orchestra work.

2 points:

Latvia – Vaguely good song, video is naff though.

3 points:

Spain – Powerful and well sung.

4 points:

Norway – Upbeat, would be much better without the misc dubstep buzzing, but still, worthy of 4 points from me!

5 points:

Can’t deny it’s well sung. :)

6 points:

Romania – Happy, upbeat, joy, and that combination of instruments makes me smile. :D

7 points:

Malta – Feels like a kinda retro Eurovision song. Malta deserve to do well one year!

8 points:

Sweden – This seems to be the favourite to win. It’s a rather good dance track, but potentially forgettable, 8 points, not 12 from me.

10 points:

Ireland – Ahh come on, you’ve gotta admit it makes you smile right? (If not then you sir are a miser.) :P

12 points:

Cyprus – This almost contains all my requirements for a perfect song; synth, la la la’s… just needed a key change and it would have been perfect! :D (somehow I think she probably can’t sing it well live though :( )

As for who I think will win, I reckon it’s probably gotta be Sweden (unless those Russian grannies with that horrid song win, in which case SHAME ON YOU EUROPE!! >_> …but it’s more likely than I’d like to think). UK should have a top 5 finish with Humperdink though, probably won’t win.

Before I finish, I’ve gotta mention a couple of songs that didn’t make it past their national selections. This should have won the Swedish selection lol, the guy is hilarious:

Likewise these Latvian guys were also funny, if only for the trollface medallion (first appears at 2:13) and their taking the piss out of everything and using bits of previous Eurovision songs/lyrics of anything/everything. :D

Eurovision 2011 Predictions

Tag: EurovisionInsaneLampshade @ 16:39pm

Just had a brief listen through of the Eurovision 2011 songs. My favourites in order below… :)

Sweden – 12 points

Belarus – 10 points

Hungary – 8 points

Estonia – 7 points

UK – 6 points

Azerbaijan – 5 points

France – 4 points

Croatia – 3 points

Armenia – 2 points

Ireland – 1 point (what… it’s better than some of the other songs, lol)

As for who I think will actually win, hmm, a tight choice between Estonia and the UK I think, possibly with France in 3rd. Gut feeling (and £10) says the UK will win! :D

Hmm, if we win then that means I’ll have to actually go to the event when it comes here in 2012… far more important than the olympics with its dodgy lisa simpson logo. :D

…and Norway wins…

Tag: EurovisionInsaneLampshade @ 3:37am

Predicting Eurovision is fairly easy these days…

“Norway is going to win by a landslide, with Turkey and Azerbaijan fighting for 2nd”

Actual results…

eurovision2009

…Norway wins by the biggest margin in Eurovision history, and Azerbaijan/Turkey fighting out for 2nd (almost, lol). Shame about Norway winning, because their song was kinda generic/boring, but i’m so glad Azerbaijan beat Turkey… their song was far better, and the girl was the hottest on the night.

Other things noted; my favourite song… Finland managed to come last, lol, it’s safe to say anything I like will never win Eurovision. And Romania managed to completely ruin their song for the final… the version on youtube had costume changes and everything, but the one they sung on the night just got rid of all of that, it kinda wrecked the song.

As for Graham Norton, he was mildly entertaining in places except for a couple of huge flaws… STOP SPEAKING OVER THE TOP OF THE HOSTS!!!! And not to mention the pointless interview with lord poncy ponce andrew lloyd webber (lack of capitalization deliberate)… I wanted to hear what the hosts had to say, not some interview with some irrelevant self-obsessed poncy c**tface for 5 minutes. Well done BBC for showing utterly no respect for the Russian hosts, I certainly hope it won’t be the same next year because that was a disgrace.

Eurovision 2009 Predictions

Tag: EurovisionInsaneLampshade @ 15:15pm

This year shall be interesting without Terry Wogan, i think Graham Norton will be a good enough replacement, no it won’t be the same, but it’ll be more entertaining than having some random nobody commentating.

Anyway, having finally got around to quickly listening to the entries (nice to see they’ve finally allowed official videos on youtube this year), these are my extremely brief thoughts…

Montenegro – Not bad, quite like it.

Czech Republic – No.

Belgium – Hmm, no, dodgy Elvis.

Belarus – Still no.

Sweden – Average, could advertise for British Airways i suppose.

Armenia – Lifeless.

Andorra – Boring.

Switzerland – Average, but 2nd best so far i suppose.

Turkey – Another year, another standard Turkey song.

Israel – Average.

Bulgaria – Ok, who gave the drunk bard at the local LARP session a microphone? Song’s pretty naff, but i must admit the girl on stilts is kinda erotic, lol.

Iceland – Slightly above average, but not amazing.

FYR Macedonia – Macedonian Meatloaf? Song’s not too bad, but not great. Fire on stage is always good.

Romania – Like it. Probably joint favourite with Montenegro so far. Costume changes during song = win!

Finland – Ok, someone listened to me about fire, lol. Yes, pretty good!

Portugal – No.

Malta – No.

Bosnia & Herzegovina – No. Looks like some sort of trippy communist promotional video.

Croatia – Boring.

Ireland – Not bad, but something about the lead singer’s voice doesn’t quite fit with the song imo. =/ (and those tights are hideous)

Latvia – Well if it were the end of the world and everyone was on drugs i’m sure it’d be a fine song.

Serbia – Songs not very good, but +1 point for the hair, lol.

Poland – Average.

Norway – Average. Can’t believe this is the favourite. =/ No doubt Graham Norton is going to have a field day with it, lol.

Cyprus – Pretty bad.

Slovakia – Sounded like some people died in the audience during the song. I don’t blame them.

Denmark – Above average.

Slovenia – Sounded like some Final Fantasy boss music, not bad.

Hungary – Video is a bit dodgy, average song.

Azerbaijan – Pretty good song, better than Turkey’s anyway.

Greece – Average.

Lithuania – Average.

Moldova – Heh, fun little song i suppose.

Albania – Not bad.

Ukraine – No.

Estonia – Boring.

Netherlands – lol, not bad, they do look like they’ve just dressed up some people from a British pub though.

Germany – Ok if you’re into that kind of thing i guess.

United Kingdom – Boring.

France – Impressively boring. Well done France, you’ve just caused mass suicides across Europe.

Russia – Emo much? We’ve got enough of those idiots in the UK, go away.

Spain – Not bad.

Right well, my favourites are: Montenegro, Romania, Slovenia, Azerbaijan, and my top favourite being Finland.

There’s no comedy songs this year. :(

Early indications seem to suggest Norway is going to win by a landslide, with Turkey and Azerbaijan fighting for 2nd…

a) I bloody well hope Norway don’t win.

b) Azerbaijan’s song is far far better than Turkey’s, Turkey cannot finish above Azerbaijan!
